Murphy's law is a saying in Western culture that broadly states :
"If anything can go wrong, it will."
There it goes "If there's more than one possible outcome of a job or task, and one of those outcomes will result in disaster or an undesirable consequence, then somebody will do it that way";
In a Mathematical fashion, the law can be expressed as "Anything that has a probability of happening greater than 0 can and will happen. No exceptions."
So how should we see this argument ? This is my suggestion :
"Do our best, relax then let the magic happen right away !"

Blue Ocean Strategy vs. competition based strategies
Red Oceans are all the industries in existence today—the known market space. In the red oceans, industry boundaries are defined and accepted, and the competitive rules of the game are known. Here companies try to outperform their rivals to grab a greater share of product or service demand. As the market space gets crowded, prospects for profits and growth are reduced. Products become commodities or niche, and cutthroat competition turns the red ocean bloody.

Rambling through Your Imagination

Get away your Boredom
"Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand." said by Albert Eeinstein (German born American Physicist). By using your imagination, you are easy to make your day more interesting and exciting. This is also an indispensible element for new idea or even new inventions !
Inventors are all great Imaginators !
To embrace new inventions, there are two important elements. The first element is the persistence to try by errors. Thomas Edison, aka The Father of Invention, invented the phonograph, the incandescent light bulb and the motion picture camera. All these inventions are created after many times of trial and errors.
The second element is an imaginative mind ! People like to watch crowd and sky are found to be more imaginative. Our Habits are enemies of our imagination boundaries. So get to do things which are not ordinary after wake up over the weekends. For example, take a trip to a place you have never been to before, walk around and observe things, new idea will come up in your mind easily.
Be a Magician, the great Actor
Another good exercise to train up your imaginative muscle is to role-play ! For example, pretend yourself to be a secret agent, professor or even a bird flying on the sky. This takes yourself out of your physical body all in a second. Try and have fun with it.
Be a Magician is another very good idea, you need to be an actor in playing the role of a magician, besides you need to think creative to be entertaining and make other laugh.

A Romance of Wedding Banquet

A Sunny Day with Smiles & Laugh
It was a Sunny Day yesterday May 15, 2008, it was also a memorable day as it is a big day of my dearest friends - the wedding of Candy & Eric (C&E)! This will be a new life for the couple, wishing them to enjoy their new life and have their kids soon! I was invited by the couple to the function to act as "brothers" as well as a guest performer for the wedding banquet at night.
The Funny Wedding Lawyer
Attending wedding banquets could be a very exciting and touched experience, especially when you see the new couple on stage announcing and promising to each other in front of the lawyer. The witness lawyer yesterday was very professional and successfully did the witness in a relaxing and humorous way. His jokes have enough pauses and he could attract laugh at the right moment. Professionism in me means two things, first of all you have to carry out your duty according to the requirement and secondly you should add a bit of personal style to your own work so that people remember you!
When Pianist meets Guitarist
In the wedding banquet, I partnered with a fair lady to be responsible for the wedding music live performance. Vivian is a full-time pianist teacher; she is such a kind of person who could improvise to play songs merely by her mind. And me, I did my singing part along with my lovely acoustic guitar. For your information, I learned guitar since secondary school and was lucky that I got a lot of performance experience next to my magic performance.
Magic to the lovely little Kid
I like to do wedding magic in wedding banquets; invited guests are nicely dressed and people have more waiting time for the enjoyment of magic. Before the dinner was started, I met a lovely kid. He was a 7-year-old boy who was being part of the wedding night as he acted as one of the "flower kids" to start the matching-in section. When I came to his table, where he sat with his mother; I gave him a small sponge ball then began my sponge magic with him. After this, I asked if he could name cards of a deck before I did a mental magic using the playing cards. What follows is a few more magic using coins and cards, the kids were completely amazed at the magic.

Originality vs Creativity

The Copyright Works
Just attended a lecture on Copyrights Law yesterday, it talks about the definition of Copyright Works. It also inspires me to revisit to the meaning of Originality in the Creation process which is an indispensible part in a Magician's Mind. Before we could be truly creative, it worths to start from basic principles. Let's ask a question, what is the difference between Creativity and Originality?
The Myth of Originality
In Law, Originality means two things. Firstly, you have to author the idea independent of others' idea. It means that the idea needs to come out of your own brain, you do not copy the idea from others. Secondly, it requires you to apply sufficient skills and labour in the works. Once these two conditions are satisfied, your works are automatically protected by the Copyrights Ordinance. When it comes to creativity, it may mean to combine two different original idea into a final thing. The things are not necessarily original, however applying enough twist and wisdom, you present it as a new creation ! So everyone can be creative, but only hardly a small portion of people would come up with idea which is in fact new and original in essence.
So Everyone can be Creative !
I like to observe, think and apply! Kids are lovely and like to play a lot always. When it comes to creativity, human are inborn with this instinct since early stage. Let me give you an observation.
In mother's day, I met my lovely nephew. When we are almost finished with our dinner in a nice chinese restaurant. He came to me and asked me to play playing cards with him. For your information, I started to play playing cards with my nephew since he was a 6-month baby! This is a common "habit" for magician to play cards very often and in fact they usually carry a deck of cards with them anytime! However this time, I did not play cards with him as the table was full of dishes. On sparks, I played a story-telling game with him ! Surprisingly, we played the game quite well, we take turns to tell a story line, we could play it for a very long time. This is a good observation that we could create by nature, but just if we would put in efforts through the process. In fact, creation is only a process!

Woman wants 3 things from a Man
Making friends and talking to different people can be a very enjoyable thing. Topics may range from political issues, psychology to philosophy. Among these topics, one could be more interesting than the others. Could you have a guess what topics are of most concern to ladies ? The topics around the two genders catch the attention of most people, especially from our lady friends. Curiously, I like to ask my lady friends what they look for from a man, who could attract them instantly. Here are the top listed one :
1. Responsiblity and Security
By instinct, ladies are creature who likes to be taken care and once they committed to a relationship, they put most of their energy into the relationship. That is no surprise that they look for responsible man who could provide the necessary sense of security.
2. Communication
Another most important element is that the man should be able to express and communicate with the ladies counterpart. Conversable man means they could communicate well in both ways, not only they are good listeners, they are also able to express their concern or feeling to the outside world. From what I got from my friends, conversable men are not easy to find. Even worse, most often types of men go in either "very talkative" or more on self-centered direction.
3. Fun Fun Fun
I thought it is common sense that noone wants to stay with anyone who is boring and have no common hobbies or topics to talk about. This is especially true for ladies ! Apparently, all ladies like their man who would be able to give joyfulness to them, even though you do not have to be a very professional entertainer. But if you are a guy who could do a magic or too, and give a laughing sparks on and two, that is a good catalyst in our same-every-day life !

The Lady in the Western-style Restaurant

The Line Of Interest
I used to go for a tea sometimes in weekend to relax, also it is my time of reading some magazines. This is my first time to see this lady in this restaurant, she looks young and charming. I approached her table for a short chat. I introduced myself and started to talk about my passion for helping others through my training experience. When I mentioned that I used magic as communication tools in my training program, I see that it got her attention. In fact, very often, when I mentioned the word "magic", people could instantly have some kind of correlation to famous magician David Copperfield or the magic that see on the Internet. Then they started to ask how this and that do, and said it is really unbelieveable
Common Thing starts off
Thanks to Internet, it opens ways for a new era of marketing, this provides more opportunities than the dark sides in magician's world. Personally speaking, the Internet may expose some secrets of magic, but it does more good than harm in general. In the old days, we can only have chance to watch magic shows on the television. Now, you can have magic entertainment readily available on the Internet. People somehow have watched one or two magic shows on the Internet, this can be a good points that we magicians have more common topics to start to talk about when we are making friends in different social situations.
Leaving, but it also means Next
After talking to my new friend for a while, I suddenly produce a deck of cards on the table in a dramatic way. And she also laugh and said why there is a deck on the table. Then I started to tell a joke or two, that this is a thing we use in our training classes. Subsequently, it is time for a "demonstration" of the magic that I taught in my Magic Training Program, that gives magicial experience to my new friend. Time flies though I really enjoyed the surprise that I got from her face. I did a few more magic and finally produced my magic business card to her. Then I will leave it in future to see what happens Next.

Learn to Act in a Magician's Way

The Childhood Play
When you walk around and make some friends, it is easy to find that people love watching drama and movies. These are especially common hobbies for people in Hong Kong, next to the habbits of shopping and going on the Internet. When I was a kid, I love playing various little and group games. I enjoyed particularly the game called "Who am I ?", in the game you need to use your body alone to express who you are, I realised that I like to stand in front of others and role-plays which gives me a lot of satisfaction and learned a lot how to present to other kids.
Role play in Drama Club
In University, I was lucky to be a member of the Drama's Club in HKUST. We have opportunities to take various drama classes through the teaching of master actors invited to the campus. In life, it is natural that we act the role of ourselves and this is easy as we all have our ways of doing and how we present and talk to others, this is an instinct behaviour. In drama club, you need to take roles in different characters, this becomes a totally new experience to me. This is the why we came to the acting class and I personally enjoy the learning process where I could learned a lot of acting and improvisation skills which help my role as a Magician for my career.
Drama in Magician's Way
Last week, I met a lady in a western-style restaurant in Central, without much thinking, I took a seat at her table after asking for a permission, of course I did it in a very polite way that I do not care if I would be rejected or so. She asked what I do here in Hong Kong, I told her that I am a trainer and help people to make friends by doing magic. This aroused her interest to know more about my training career.
After talking to her for a while, it appears to me that Hongkongers rarely believe that career as a magician really emerges in a small place like Hong Kong. I told her that I am not only a magician and musician performer, I also would like to share and train people who believe that they could learn an art which is special and instantly make friends more easily they could ever thought of.
